𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | ISU-I Architecture Department Hosts Basic SketchUp and AutoCAD Extension Activity

The Architecture Department of Isabela State University – Ilagan Campus (ISU-I) conducted a Training on Basic SketchUp and AutoCAD on December 16, 2025, at the New CEAT Building, in line with the celebration of the Philippine Architecture Festival–National Architecture Month (PAFNAM) 2025. The activity was implemented as an Extension Activity of the department to enhance the technical drawing and digital drafting skills of Senior High School students and teachers.

The training was spearheaded by Ar./EnP. Geraldine J. Paguigan, PhD, who served as the Project Leader of the activity. Ar. Bagnos A. Quebral Jr., PhD, MSArch., UAP, and Ar. Wilna Breech Ramos, UAP, acted as the trainors, providing lectures and hands-on demonstrations on SketchUp and AutoCAD, respectively. The sessions focused on familiarizing participants with basic commands, workflows, and practical applications essential to architectural drafting.

The activity was attended by Senior High School students from Isabela National High School (INHS) together with their instructors—Ma’am Anne Christma B. Mariano (Teacher III), Sir Edmar A. Teel (Teacher I), and Sir Jonel R. Rosete (Teacher II). Also present were Ar. Jefsie M. Antonio, UAP, and Marc Bien P. Lungub, Chapter President of UAPSA ISU Ilagan. Fifth-year Architecture students served as facilitators and mentors during the workshop sessions, assisting participants throughout the hands-on activities.

One of the participants, Carl Richardson Ochoa, a Grade 11 student from INHS, shared that the training helped him gain early exposure to digital tools needed in his future studies. “I learned a lot po because of the seminar kanina. Nagkaroon na po ako ng foundation sa mga application softwares na essential sa course na kukunin ko in college. And ang helpful po ng mga organizers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aldrich Jan Fuerte, a fifth-year Architecture student and one of the facilitators, described the experience as meaningful and inspiring. “Sobrang fulfilling ng naging experience ko bilang mentor, lalo na nang makita ko kung gaano ka competitive at ka-eager matuto ang mga participants,” he said. He added that opportunities like this highlight the importance of sharing knowledge and collaboration in the profession, noting that such activities serve as reminders of why community engagement and mentorship are vital in architecture.

The training concluded with the awarding of certificates to the participants. Through this extension initiative, the ISU Ilagan Architecture Department reaffirmed its commitment to community service, academic mentorship, and the advancement of architectural education in line with the goals of PAFNAM 2025.
