The United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary β Isabela State University (UAPSA-ISU) launched Kickstart 2025 at the new CEAT AVR, September 27, 2025. with the theme βHarbor: Anchoring Connections.β
Kickstart, a long-standing UAPSA tradition, began as a simple student socialization but has since evolved into a cornerstone event that strengthens camaraderie, leadership, and resilience among architecture students through teambuilding and shared experiences.
The program opened with an inspirational speech from Ar. Blesie Joy M. Laguna, Chair of the Architecture Department, who emphasized that education is not a solitary journey but one rooted in relationships, collaboration, and real-world application. She encouraged students to anchor themselves in values, knowledge, and skills as they prepare to face lifeβs uncertainties.
Ar. Khristian Dave Talaue, President of UAP Isabela Amianan, highlighted the three keys to success in the architecture profession: Tiwala (trust)βin God, in oneself, and in peers; Tibay (strength)βto withstand challenges and pressures, especially in academics and mental health; and Tiyaga (perseverance)βconsistent effort and hard work to reach oneβs dreams. Using a metaphor of sailing, he reminded students that architecture is like navigating the vast ocean, requiring teamwork, resilience, and determination.
Meanwhile, Ar. Jefsie M. Antonio recalled how Kickstart began at ISU-Ilagan, sharing stories that underscored the eventβs importance as a memorable tradition passed down to new generations of students.
The event also featured skills and knowledge-sharing activities. The College Red Cross Youth (CRCY), led by adviser Marines Zilabbo, conducted a hands-on session on basic life support, where CRCY members guided students in practicing CPR and proper bandaging techniques.
In addition, Ymer L. Tiburcio from the ISU Psychology Department delivered a mental health awareness talk, emphasizing the importance of resilience, balance, and self-care for architecture students facing academic pressures and personal challenges.
To end the program, UAPSA-ISU President Mark Bien P. Lungub expressed gratitude to the speakers, advisers, and partner organizations, emphasizing that the event embodied the true spirit of the theme βHarbor: Anchoring Connections.β He encouraged students to carry the lessons forward as they continue their academic journey, reminding them that βthe best is yet to come.β
