𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | Where Architecture Meets Storytelling: ISU Ilagan Students Excel at 22nd RHEPC

In architecture, hands are trained to draw lines that shape skylines, frame spaces, and give form to ideas. But for the architecture students of Isabela State University (ISU) Ilagan, those same hands recently proved they can also tell stories, spark conversations, and capture realities through art.
During the 22nd Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) held at NGN Gran Hotel in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, from February 4 to 6, 2026, ISU Ilagan architecture students delivered an outstanding performance across multiple visual arts categories, demonstrating that the discipline of architecture extends far beyond technical drafting and design.
Leading the recognition was Jayson Baquiran, who claimed 1st Place in Comic Strip Drawing and 4th Place in Editorial Cartooning (Traditional Filipino). His works reflected not only artistic skill but also the ability to translate complex narratives into powerful visual sequences—an ability deeply rooted in architectural visualization and conceptual thinking.
Meanwhile, Dan Harris Galupo secured 4th Place in Digital Editorial Cartooning and 7th Place in Traditional Editorial Cartooning (English), showcasing versatility across both digital and traditional platforms. John Reiven Parallag further strengthened ISU Ilagan’s presence by earning 7th Place in Digital Literary Graphics and 9th Place in Digital Editorial Cartooning (Filipino), demonstrating strong command of digital composition and visual storytelling.
Behind every entry lies the discipline of architectural training—the patience to refine details, the vision to see the bigger picture, and the creativity to turn abstract ideas into visual language. Architecture students are trained not only to design buildings but to understand people, culture, and environment. At RHEPC, these skills translated seamlessly into artistic expression.
Their performance reflects a deeper truth about architecture: great design begins with imagination. Before structures rise from foundations, they are first shaped by creativity, storytelling, and bold thinking. The success of these students proves that architecture is not confined to blueprints—it is a field deeply connected to art, communication, and social awareness.
As these young creatives continue to grow in their craft, they carry with them a spirit of resilience and transformation. Like a phoenix rising from fire, each challenge becomes an opportunity to refine their skills and strengthen their vision. Every competition, every plate, and every sketch becomes part of a larger journey toward mastery.
More than medals and placements, their achievements stand as a testament to the evolving role of architecture students—as designers, storytellers, and visionaries capable of shaping not only spaces, but perspectives.
The ISU Ilagan community celebrates these students for bringing pride and honor to the university and for showing that the hands trained to build the future can also create art that speaks to the present.
