CEAT Hosts 2024 CEATific Conference
The College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT) at Isabela State University (ISU) Ilagan held its much-anticipated 2024 CEATific Conference, a college-based undergraduate research colloquium designed to highlight innovative research and creative solutions by students. Held at the New CEAT AVR, this year’s event centered on the theme, “Creativity in the Emerging Age of Technology,” emphasizing the growing importance of creativity in solving modern technological challenges.
The conference gathered students, faculty, and industry professionals for a full day of research presentations, discussions, and knowledge exchange. Student researchers from various CEAT departments presented their capstone projects and research studies, covering a range of topics from renewable energy and sustainable construction materials to advancements in artificial intelligence and smart technology applications.
In his opening remarks, Cluster Executive Officer, Engr. Alfonso R. Simon, PhD, expressed the importance of research in nurturing future leaders and innovators. “Today’s gathering is a celebration of our students' dedication to research and creativity, which are essential as we navigate an age defined by rapid technological advancements. The 2024 CEATific Conference not only highlights their achievements but also encourages them to think boldly and innovate responsibly,” Dr. Simon remarked.
The event included individual and group presentations, as well as interactive poster sessions, where students shared their research findings with the CEAT community and discussed the practical applications of their work. A standout project from the Department of Electrical Engineering focused on harnessing solar power to create sustainable, low-cost energy solutions for remote communities, an effort that earned positive feedback from attendees for its real-world relevance and potential community impact.
Architecture students also impressed the audience with a project on eco-friendly urban planning, showcasing designs that incorporate green technology to reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability. “It’s inspiring to see such innovative ideas from our students, especially those addressing environmental challenges,” commented Prof. Elena Ramos, one of the conference organizers.
The 2024 CEATific Conference also featured a panel discussion with faculty members and industry experts on the importance of fostering creativity alongside technical skills in engineering and technology. Panelists highlighted the role of creative thinking in problem-solving and encouraged students to approach their research with an open and innovative mindset.
Student researcher Jaynald Ugaddan, a fourth-year Electrical Engineering student, shared his excitement about presenting at the conference. “Being able to present our research to peers and professionals gives us a great platform to learn and improve. This experience encourages us to keep pushing boundaries,” she said.
As the event concluded, Engr. Crestian A. Agustin, College Dean, praised the students for their commitment to research and expressed his hope that the CEATific Conference would inspire future scholars to contribute meaningfully to the fields of engineering, architecture, and technology. “We are proud of our students’ achievements, and we look forward to seeing how their innovations will shape the future,” he said.
The 2024 CEATific Conference proved to be a resounding success, inspiring both presenters and attendees to think creatively and explore new technological frontiers. It is expected to become an annual event, fostering a culture of research, creativity, and academic excellence within CEAT.
