Infrastructure Enhancements at Isabela State University –City of Ilagan Campus
The Admininistration of the at Isabela State University – City of Ilagan Campus is pleased to announce the completion of the new handwashing stations and a covered walkway, which includes a bleacher, benches, and wheelchair ramps. These projects, initiated by the SSC Officers and funded by the Student Development Fund, represent a significant advancement in ISU’s commitment to health, hygiene, and accessibility. They align closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5 and 6, reinforcing its dedication to creating an inclusive and sustainable campus environment.
The newly installed handwashing stations which are strategically located on the campus are essential for promoting gender equality on campus (SDG 5). By providing safe and hygienic facilities for all students and staff, women and girls are empowered in maintaining their health and well-being. Access to clean handwashing stations reduces the likelihood of illness, enabling everyone to fully participate in academic and extracurricular activities. This emphasis on hygiene fosters a more equitable environment where all
individuals can thrive. In alignment with SDG 6, which emphasizes the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, these handwashing stations enhance access to clean water on campus. Equipped with easy-to-maintain fixtures that promote efficient water use, these facilities encourage proper hygiene practices among students and employees, thereby reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and fostering a healthier community overall.
On the other hand, the new covered walkway, featuring a bleacher, provides an ideal space for physical education (P.E.) classes and other school activities. Furthermore, the integrated wheelchair ramps significantly enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities, ensuring that those with mobility
challenges can navigate the campus safely and comfortably.
This thoughtful design promotes an inclusive environment for all students and staff. The covered walkway not only provides shelter from the elements, promoting greater interaction and participation across the campus, but also features integrated benches in some sections, inviting rest and conversation along the way. The covered walkway, beginning at the main guard house, seamlessly connects various campus buildings, including the CEAT Building, Chemistry Lab, Campus Gymnasium, RYPIC Building, CED Building, and Food Technology Building.
The development of these facilities underscores the University’s dedication to creating a healthier, more
inclusive campus. By prioritizing hygiene, accessibility, and connectivity, the Administration is effectively addressing the immediate needs of its students and employees while contributing to broader social and environmental goals. These enhancements will serve not only to improve daily campus life but also to inspire a culture of well-being and inclusiveness within ISU’s academic community.
