Isabela State University Celebrates World Architecture Day with Student Exhibit
In a vibrant celebration of creativity and design, architecture students at Isabela State University (ISU) organized an impressive exhibit to commemorate World Architecture Day. Held on October 7, 2024, in the lobby of the new College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT). The event showcased innovative projects inspired by some of the best architectural wonders from around the globe. The cutting of ribbon was graced by the faculty of the architecture department with Dr. Crestian A. Agustin, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, Mr. Armand Francis Ruma, the Campus Administrative and Finance Director who represented Dr. Alfonso R. Simon, the Campus Executive Officer who was on official travel that time and Ms. Remedios Lamorena, the Campus Director for Office of the Student Affairs and Services.
The theme of the exhibit, “Igniting Inspiration, Lighting the Way for Sustainable Urban Architecture”, encouraged students to draw from a wide range of architectural styles and techniques. From ancient wonders like the Pyramids of Egypt to Classical and modern masterpieces, the students presented a diverse array of drawings, paintings, and scale models that highlighted their unique interpretations of global architecture. Guests at the exhibit included university faculty, local architects, and aspiring students, all eager to witness the talent and dedication of ISU’s architecture program. The event featured guided tours led by students, who passionately explained the inspiration behind their designs and the innovative processes they employed.
“We wanted to celebrate not just architecture as a field but also the creativity and potential of our students,” said Dr. Bagnos A. Quebral Jr., chair of the architecture department at ISU. “This exhibit allows them to express their vision and engage with the community, showing that architecture is a living art form that impacts our daily lives.” The event also included contested activities and lectures by guest speakers. Ar. Clarissa Balante, who is also a licensed Environmental Planner. She discussed about Disaster and Risk Management and the role of the architects in designing urban spaces and Ar. Bagnos A. Quebral Jr., discussed about Design Concepts providing students with valuable insights into current trends and practices in architecture. Ar. Riel Jan Flores gave an inspirational message through a video clip presentation. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions that encouraged them to think critically about architectural design and its role in shaping sustainable communities.
The exhibit was a resounding success, drawing a crowd of over 1000 attendees throughout the day. Many expressed admiration for the creativity and skill displayed by the students, praising the event as a vital platform for fostering architectural discourse within the local community.As the day concluded, students left inspired, motivated by the positive feedback and the potential for future collaborations. With World Architecture Day serving as a reminder of the importance of design in our world, the students of Isabela State University demonstrated their commitment to shaping the future of architecture through innovation and passion. The exhibit were spearheaded by Sonny Boy Guiuo, ISU-UAPSA President, with their advisers namely Ar. Razel Tacay and Ar. Jefsie Antonio.
