ISU Ilagan Achieves Level II in Gender Mainstreaming Audit

On February 14, 2022, Isabela State University (ISU) Ilagan achieved a significant milestone in its commitment to gender equality. Under the leadership of Dr. Jhamie Tetz I. Mateo, University GAD Director, and Ms. Haycel Vargas, the GAD Focal Person, the university underwent a comprehensive Gender and Development (GAD) Audit, which resulted in the institution receiving a Level II rating in the Gender Mainstreaming Evaluation Framework (GMEF).

The audit, facilitated by ISU Ilagan’s Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS), assessed the university’s efforts in integrating gender-sensitive policies and practices across its systems, programs, and curriculum. Achieving Level II indicates that ISU Ilagan is in the emerging stage of gender mainstreaming, with policies and initiatives beginning to take root, though further work is needed to fully institutionalize gender equality across all operations.

Dr. Mateo expressed pride in the achievement, emphasizing that while Level II is a notable accomplishment, the university will continue to push forward in strengthening its gender-responsive efforts. Ms. Vargas also highlighted the importance of the audit as a valuable tool for self-assessment, allowing the university to identify areas for improvement as it works towards Level III in the future.

Moving forward, ISU Ilagan plans to expand gender-responsive curriculum, enhance gender-sensitive budgeting, and institutionalize gender policies to ensure a more inclusive and equitable academic environment. The Level II result reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), marking an important step toward creating a more gender-inclusive campus.
