ISU–Ilagan Conducts Seminar on the Theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”
In celebration of women’s empowerment and the continuing advocacy for gender equality, Isabela State University – City of Ilagan Campus conducted a seminar today, March 11, 2026 anchored on the theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”

The seminar highlighted the significant role of women in leadership by drawing inspiration from the Babaylans, who were known in early Philippine societies as respected women leaders, healers, and spiritual guides. Their wisdom, courage, and dedication to their communities serve as a powerful reminder that women have long been active contributors to leadership and societal development.
Serving as the Resource Speaker was Atty. Maria Kristel L. Pascual, Campus Human Resource Management Officer (HRMO), who shared valuable insights on leadership, empowerment, and the importance of promoting gender equality in modern institutions and communities. Her discussion encouraged participants to embrace leadership with confidence, compassion, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Through the theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”, the seminar emphasized that leadership is rooted not only in authority but also in service, wisdom, and the ability to uplift others. It calls on today’s Filipinas to embody the same spirit of courage and resilience shown by the Babaylans as they continue to take active roles in shaping communities and institutions.
The activity also served as a platform for reflection and dialogue among faculty and staff on the continuing pursuit of a gender-equal and inclusive society, reaffirming the university’s commitment to empowering women and recognizing their vital contributions to nation-building.
