ISU-Ilagan Hosts University Games 2020

[ January 20, 2020

Ilagan Campus is this year’s host of University Games held on January 20-23.

“Today we’re here not only to join the University Games 2020 but also to showcase our commitment to our team and give our best by disciplining ourselves” were the inspiring words of Dr. Ricmar Aquino, ISU President as he delivered his message during the opening program at the City of Ilagan Sports Complex.

The annual athletic competition is participated in by nine campuses of the system, namely Angadanan Campus, Cabagan Campus, Cauayan City Campus, Echague Campus, Jones Campus, Roxas Campus, San Mateo Campus, San Mariano Campus, and the City of Ilagan Campus.

City First Councilor Jay Eveson Diaz represented his father Hon. Josemarie L. Diaz, City Mayor of Ilagan as the Guest Speaker. Diaz thanked the University for conducting the sports activity in the City of Ilagan. He said that Mayor Diaz was once part of the ISU Faculty before he joined politics. Thus he was very happy about the city’s hosting big events of ISU like the university games.

The opening program was highlighted by the parade of the delegates around the city, hoisting of banner by University and Campus Officials along with the guest speaker, and a ground demonstration performed by several hundreds of students from the host campus.

This year’s University Games has the theme “One Team, One Goal, One Heart, One Spirit” which encourages strong bond and solidarity among the nine campuses of the University.

Mr. Philip Rasdas, Campus Sports Director of ISU Ilagan along with other PE Instructors and a host of volunteer students, was instrumental in the successful hosting of the 2020 University Games under the leadership of Dr. Boyet L. Batang, Campus Executive Officer.

Ilagan to host Regional SCUAA in February

The University Games is only a prelude to a much bigger athletic event to be hosted by ISU Ilagan this year. In the latter part of February, the Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet shall be held in the City of Ilagan. It will be joined by state universities and colleges in Region 02. More delegates are expected to participate in the sporting event.
