ISU Ilagan Kicks Off Women’s Month Celebration with Empowering Activities

Isabela State University (ISU) Ilagan campus marked the beginning of its Women’s Month Celebration on March 8, 2022, with a vibrant virtual event that brought together faculty, non-teaching staff, and students in a unified effort to promote women’s empowerment. Held via Zoom, the event was graced by Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, the University President, along with other top university officials, including the Vice Presidents, Cluster Executive Officers, and Campus Administrators.

The program featured an inspiring talk by Dr. Lea Solmerin Corpuz, a renowned resource speaker, who delivered a compelling lecture on “Women Empowerment: Addressing Distress to Women.” Dr. Corpuz highlighted the various challenges women face in society and the importance of empowering women through education, advocacy, and support. Her talk resonated with the audience, sparking meaningful discussions about how individuals and institutions can better support women, especially in times of distress.

In addition to the online activities, the event also featured a banner raising ceremony that was conducted simultaneously across the campus. The raising of the Women’s Month banner served as a visible display of the university’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. As the banner was unfurled, it symbolized the collective effort of the entire ISU Ilagan community to support the advocacy for women’s rights. The ceremony was attended by key university officials and faculty members, all of whom expressed their dedication to advancing women’s causes. The banner raising was a significant moment that united everyone in promoting the values of respect, equality, and empowerment for women.

As part of the celebration, the afternoon session featured several fun and creative activities, including a digital poster-making contest, dish garden-making challenge, essay writing competition, and a university-wide photo challenge. These activities not only encouraged creativity but also served as a platform for participants to express their commitment to the advocacy of women’s empowerment. One of the highlights of the event was the show of solidarity as attendees wore their purple shirts, symbolizing their strong support for women’s rights and empowerment. The color purple, recognized globally as the symbol of women’s suffrage and empowerment, served as a reminder of the university’s ongoing commitment to gender equality and social change.
