ISU-UAPSA Leads Clean and Green Initiative Through Recycling Program
The Architecture Department of the Isabela State University, Ilagan City campus has taken a significant step towards sustainability by spearheading a Clean and Green program in collaboration with the United Architects of the Philippines-Student Auxiliary (UAPSA). This initiative aims to promote environmental awareness while providing a practical solution to waste management on campus. As part of the program, students and faculty have been actively collecting paper and plastic bottles for recycling. The collected materials are sold to local recycling facilities, with the proceeds set to support further clean and green initiatives across the campus. This innovative approach not only reduces waste but also fosters a sense of responsibility among students regarding environmental stewardship.
“Our goal is to create a culture of sustainability within our campus community,” said Ar. Bagnos A. Queral Jr, Chair of the Architecture Department. “By turning waste into a resource, we are not only helping the environment but also funding programs that will enhance our campus and promote further green initiatives.” The program has seen enthusiastic participation from students, who have rallied together to collect recyclables from classrooms, offices, and common areas. Informational campaigns have also been launched to educate the university community on the importance of recycling and reducing plastic waste.
In addition to funding the Clean and Green program, the sales from the recycled materials will contribute to other initiatives, including campus beautification projects, tree planting events, and educational workshops on sustainability practices.
“The support we’ve received has been overwhelming,” said Sonny Boy Guiuo, UAPSA president. “It’s inspiring to see our fellow students so engaged in making a positive impact. Together, we can create a cleaner, greener campus for everyone.” The ISU-UAPSA’s Clean and Green program has garnered attention from other departments within the university, with plans to expand the initiative to involve more students and staff in future recycling drives and environmental activities.
