Symposium Highlights the Vital Role of Tourism in Fostering Environmental Awareness and Responsibility

On September 28, 2023, Isabela State University Ilagan Campus played host to a pivotal event that shed light on the crucial role of tourism in raising environmental awareness and responsibility. The symposium, conducted at the New College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) Audio-Visual Room (AVR), carried the theme “Tourism and Green Investments.” Engaging and informative, the symposium was participated by the Isabela State University Ilagan Campus Student Body Organizations (SBOs). The event featured insightful discussions and presentations facilitated by the City Environment and Natural Resource Office, led by Sir Elvis Bayad and his team, a leading figure in environmental advocacy in the City of Ilagan.
The symposium recognized the symbiotic relationship between tourism and environmental conservation. In recent years, tourism has emerged as a potent driver of awareness and responsibility towards the environment. The event aimed to underscore the significant role that responsible tourism practices play in preserving natural resources, protecting ecosystems, and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The primary audience for the symposium was the student body organizations at ISU Ilagan Campus. By engaging student leaders, the event intended to empower the youth to become advocates for sustainable tourism and responsible environmental practices. These young leaders are the potential torchbearers of change and can influence their peers and communities.

A highlight of the symposium was the enlightening discussions and presentations conducted by the City Environment and Natural Resource Office under the leadership of Sir Elvis Bayad. Sir Bayad’s expertise in environmental matters, particularly in the context of the City of Ilagan, provided attendees with valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities surrounding sustainable tourism and green investments.
His presentations delved into topics such as eco-tourism, responsible travel, and the importance of green investments in tourism development. The audience gained a deeper understanding of how responsible tourism can promote the conservation of natural resources, benefit local communities, and foster economic growth.
The symposium served as a platform for participants to explore the intersection of tourism and environmental responsibility. They learned that responsible tourism practices involve minimizing the negative impacts of tourism, conserving the environment, and supporting the well-being of local communities. This concept aligns with the global trend of sustainable travel, which is increasingly becoming a priority for both travelers and tourism industry stakeholders.
The symposium on “The Role of Tourism in Environmental Awareness and Responsibility” with the theme “Tourism and Green Investments” was a significant step toward raising environmental consciousness and responsibility among the student body organizations of ISU Ilagan Campus. By educating and engaging future leaders in the principles of sustainable tourism, the event sought to pave the way for a more environmentally conscious and responsible generation.
The participation and expertise shared by Sir Elvis Bayad and the City Environment and Natural Resource Office in this symposium underlined the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and government bodies in promoting environmental sustainability. As we look to the future, it is these informed and responsible leaders who will continue to advocate for environmentally friendly practices and foster a greater sense of responsibility in the tourism industry and beyond.
